Reading the article “The Extraordinary Science of Addictive Junk Food” by the New York Times, gives a perspective for people who do not know what goes on in Americas largest food companies. I really like how (some) C.E.O.’s are putting in effort to minimize the increase of obesity in America. In the article James Behnke who is 55 years old, is an executive at Pillsbury, planned a meeting with other C.E.O.’s from companies like, Nestlé, Kraft, Coca-Cola, Mars, and many more talk over about this sensitve topic. According to James, it is not easy bringing C.E.O.’s together because, ” In the food industry C.E.O.’s are typically not technical guys, and they’re uncomfortable going to meetings where technical people talk in technical terms about technical things….” he also stated that, “They do not want to be embarrassed. They do not want to make commitments.”
They want to maintain their aloofness and autonomy.” There are many ways to start changing the corporations of junk food and one important part of that is ingredients. While reading the article it shocked me how many people from Finland in the lates 1970’s consumed sodium of eating an average of more than two teaspoons of salt a day! In result to that, the people developed issues with high blood pressure and highest rate of fatal cardiovascular disease. That is insane, I can only imagine the ingredients today. It is good to hear that corporations are taking respondsiblity for their ingredients in their products. Even though some parents pack healthy snacks, the child is being required to eat them and not through them away while some kids do throw it away. If parents know that their child does not really like healthy food, try to find an alternative like, dairy free, diet coke, vegan options because with some stuff you can not even tell the difference unless you tell someone. Whether that be junk food or fast food depending if you view that the same, an example like Carls Jr, they have a vegan option called beyound meat which is a plant based meat. It is a great start to a healthier options for certai people that choose to not eat meat or eat dairy.
In conclusion, this article gave an excellent overview and deep information on C.E.O.’s and their corporations and how they managed to meet together to find a way decrease obesity in America and to also inform readers like me about be alert with what your consuming in your body.
